Coorie Doon in Lockdown

Like the Highland House of Fraser team, it is likely that your days feel rather differently to previous routines. Covid-19 is challenging established norms and our traditional relationships with the outside world and each other. However, the current situation has expanded our creativity and engaged our curiosity. While it’s vital to think about the current challenges, it is also important to think and plan for the future. This can be a time to refocus, diversify and embrace new ways of working. To quote Albert Einstein; “In the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity”.
Stuck at home? May seem harsh, but it’s a great opportunity to spend time with those closest to you and to ‘coorie doon’ (derived from Old Scots). In Scotland, it’s when someone pats a space on their sofa and invites you to ‘coorie doon’ – snuggle up on the sofa together, you may not have a lot of room, but you’re snug and nestled up to a loved one. In recent years, ‘coorie’ has been used to describe the very essence of Scottish culture with a contemporary spin, used to describe Scottish homes with sheepskin-covered sofas and log-burning stoves, where people want to spend time with each other. The Art of Coorie is warm and comforting, with a balance of the outside and inside, living well…how to live happy the Scottish way.
We’d like to share some ideas with you about self distancing self care, where some Scottish products may be just the thing you need right now to ‘coorie doon’ at home. If not for yourself, then perhaps something for a friend or loved one, to let them know you are thinking about them.
